Are you unsure of where to go to try some of the best tortilla española? To help you out, we have chosen our top 5 places to eat the famous tortilla here in Madrid. But first, a little information about tortilla and an astonishing fun fact!

The traditional tortilla is served either hot or cold and consists of egg and potatoes. Adding onions to them is a question of personal taste and causes a lot of controversy! There are regional variations of tortilla and are also now many places where you can try many different flavours. Just some of the many ingredients that can be added to a tortilla include: chorizo, mushrooms, goats cheese, caramelized onions or peppers!

It is usually very busy so it´s hard to get a table but most people stand. The flavours are exciting and different. Along with the many tortillas, there are also unique flavours of croquettes and artisanal beer. It is 3 euros for a generous slice of tortilla with bread.

There are two La Buha´s (Chueca and La Latina). Both have enormous tortillas weighing a kilo. If you ask any local person, they will undoubtedly tell you to go to this restaurant and try the filled tortillas. Make sure you go on an empty stomach as the portions are very generous! If La Buha is busy, fear not because it has another restaurant called El Buo (Chueca and La Latina).

  • Casa Dani (Calle de Ayala, 28)

1. La Plaza de OrienteJavier

Los jardines de la Plaza de Oriente son el lugar ideal para pasear y relajarse. Me gusta ir por la tarde justo en el momento en el que el sol empieza a esconderse en el horizonte, para ver las luces sobre el palacio real y cómo se ilumina. Una vez anochece, es el lugar perfecto para un buen picnic con los amigos o la pareja, mientras escuchas al arpista animar la noche.

Plaza de Oriente Gardens are the ideal place to walk around and relax. I like going there in the evening, just at the moment when the sun is going down and you can see the changing lights over the Royal Palace. Once is dark, it becomes the perfect place for a picnic with your couple or friends while you listen to the harpist playing in the night.

Les jardins de la Plaza de Oriente sont le lieu idéal pour se balader et se détendre. J’aime aller en début de soirée, juste au moment où le soleil commence à se cacher dans l’horizon, afin de voir la lumière sur le Palais Royal. À la tombée de la nuit, les jardins sont parfaits pour faire un picnic avec les amis ou en couple, pendant qu’on écoute le harpiste jouer

El Lateral es una conocida cadena de restaurantes que ofrece tapas de comida tradicional española e internacional. En especial Lateral Castellana 42, junto al metro Ruben Darío (Line 5), tiene una gran terraza para poder disfrutar de la comida y de los posteriores cócteles al aire libre. Una de las mejores opciones para comer en Madrid en verano o invierno, gracias a la terraza cubierta.

3. El Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales

El Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales es uno de los monumentos más bonitos y más desconocidos de Madrid. Situado en la plaza del mismo nombre, además de la iglesia tiene una parte museo que se puede visitar. Para mí es una parada obligada en una tarde de paseo por el centro o durante la Navidad, de camino a “Cortylandia”.

Descalzas Reales’ monastery is one of the most beautiful and unknown monuments in Madrid. Located at square of the same name, you can visit the church and the museum area of the ancient monastery. For me, it is a compulsory stop when walking around the downtown or in Christmas, before seeing “Cortylandia”.

Le Monastère de las Descalzas Reales est un des monuments les plus beaux et les moins connus de Madrid. Situé dans la place du même nom, on peut visiter l’église ainsi qu’une partie du monastère qui est devenu un musée. Pour moi, c’est un arrêt obligé si je me promène dans le centre-ville ou pendant les fêtes de Noël avant de voir «Cortylandia ».

4. Madrid Río

Si quieres pasear, hacer deporte o relajarte durante el fin de semana, Madrid Río es el lugar perfecto. Los más deportistas aprovechan este espacio para ponerse en forma, las familias para jugar con sus niños y los jóvenes para reunirse en las fuentes y los bares del parque para descansar después de una larga semana. Personalmente, me gusta pasear al final del día cuando el parque está más tranquilo y puedo disfrutar del aire fresco y desconectar en este pequeño oasis en la ciudad.

If you want to go for a walk, do sport or relax during the weekend, Madrid Río is the perfect place. Runners use this space to get in fit, families to play with their kids and the younger ones to meet around the fountains and bars in order to relax after a long week. Personally, I like to walk around at the end of the day when the park is quieter because you can enjoy the fresh air and disconnect from the busy city life.

Si on veut se balader, faire du sport ou se détendre pendant le weekend, Madrid Río est l’endroit parfait. Les sportifs profitent de cet espace pour se mettre en forme, les familles pour jouer avec leurs enfants et les jeunes pour se rencontrer autour des fontaines et bars pour se reposer après une longue semaine. Personnellement, j’adore me promener à la fin de la journée quand le parc est plus tranquille et je peux profiter de l’air frais et déconnecter dans ce petit oasis au centre-ville.

5. El Mercado de San Ildefonso

Entre los barrios de Chueca, Tribunal y Malasaña, encontramos este espacio único que fusiona el concepto de mercado con el de restaurante callejero en lo que se conoce generalmente como “Street Market”. Antes de salir a disfrutar de la noche madrileña, me encanta hacer una parada en este lugar para tomar de una copa de vino y unas tostas, en las acogedoras terrazas interiores. Muy recomendable si buscáis un lugar animado para pasar el tiempo con los amigos.

In the cross between Chueca, Tribunal and Malasaña areas, we can find this unique place which merges market concept with street restaurant, creating the so-called “Street Market”. Before going out to enjoy Madrid’s nightlife, I like enter into the market, drink a glass of wine and eat some “tostas” in the cozy indoor terraces. It is highly recommendable if you are looking for a place to hang out with friends.

Au milieu des quartiers de Chueca, Tribunal et Malasaña, on se retrouve avec ce lieu unique qui mélange le concept traditionnel de marché avec celui du restaurant de rue, en créant ce qu’on connaît généralement comme « Street Market ». Avant de partir pour s’amuser dans la nuit madrilène, j’aime m’arrêter ici pour boire un verre de vin et déguster des « tostas » dans les terrasses intérieures cosy. Très recommandé si vous cherchez un lieu animé pour bavarder avec les amis.
